Overview
The very game that started Aliens versus Predator on the PC, based on the idea of three races finding themselves in conflict with eachother, where the three different playstyles converge The game was developed by Rebellion Developments and released in 1999 for the PC and Mac computers by Fox Interactive, with an unofficial Linux port (made in 2001) existing. There also exists an Xbox port of the game from 2009. The game's source code has been released publicly. It eventually spawned an even more refined sequel, AvP2 in 2001, developed by Monolith Productions.

Story The three stories are independent of eachother. The Alien must protect its Queen and her Hive from intruding humans. As the humans start acting for their safety, the Marine ship Ferarco's self-destruction mechanism is set on. The Alien must make its way to an escape shuttle which leads it into Gateway Station, where the Alien must fight for survival.

The Colonial Marines are busy studying a derelict spacecraft on planet LV-426, where the Nostromo crew encountered Alien eggs in the '79 film. While the player makes his way through, Aliens keep him constantly on his toes. Eventually he must attempt to wipe out all the Aliens and find a way to escape.

The Predator will visit three distinctive planets, first hunting Marines to regain a Predator ship and battling Aliens in the midst which are set free. The second will be Fury 161, the prison planet from the '92 Aliens3 film. The final planet will be in a human controlled Alien habitat, with plenty of surprises abound.

Game Types

The game has various different game types, most of which are in the multiplayer part of the game.

Single Player
-Campaign: the single player mainly tells the story of the Alien, Marine and Predator from each of their respective perspectives.

Multiplayer
-Deathmatch
Free for all. Everyone basically attempts to frag everyone they see. Simple!

-Species Deathmatch
Every race forms a team of their own, which fight against the other two races.

-Alien Tag
The host will spawn as an alien, and everyone else will be either Marines or Predators. Only the Alien will get any points from a frag, so the Predators and Marines will be hunting it constantly. Killing the Alien makes you become one!

-Predator Tag
Same as Alien Tag, except only Predators score here.

-Last Man Standing
The host again spawns as an Alien, where others are only Marines. If and Alien kills a Marine, the Marine will turn into an Alien, until there is only one Marine left. The Last Man Standing will receive bonus points for frags. After he is dead, the game restarts.

-Cooperative
All players are Marines or Predators, who together must survive against waves of AI controller Aliens.

Species - Alien (Fast - Deadly - Strong)

The xenomorphs or also known as the aliens/bugs in Alien vs. Predator are an insect-like creature with armoured skin and lightning fast agility, before you know it... it might be to late, so you need to be wary when dealing with these. The xenomorph will hide in the dark corridors, and will stop at nothing until its prey is dead or captured for hosts. The xenomorph will protect its queen until the bitter end, and you will come across these in the game all of the time. Make sure you use flares or the image intensifier in dark sections - otherwise it will be too late for you.

- Predator (Hunter, Silent, Stealthy)

The yautja, also known as the predator, is a humanoid-type creature. However, they are fast and deadly sporting an endoskeleton structure along with their large muscles and a high intelligence of advanced weaponry. They can often get overconfident at times. You will encounter these hunters throughout the game in certain locations. They are difficult to see when they are cloakced, so keep an eye on your tracker at all times - when the beeping begins be alert, be very alert.

- Colonial Marines (Shoot first - ask questions later!)

The Homosapien, also known as Human, is the race always in the middle of this chaotic war. They have a large collection of weapons, vehicles and ships and always end up on the wrong side of things, but they will stop at nothing and give you one hell of a fight till the end. They are also perfect for 'hosts' for the aliens, who have been known to use human hosts to amass massive colonies. The colonial marines' weapons are not as powerful as the predators', but they will pack a punch and get the job done one way or another.
