Alien is a 1982 maze game for the Atari 2600 based on Ridley Scott’s 1979 film. Developed and published by Fox Video Games, it was programmed by Doug Neubauer and released in November 1982. It is single‑player and among the earliest Alien franchise home releases.
A Pac‑Man‑style maze chase set aboard a ship: you guide a crew member clearing alien eggs while avoiding adult xenomorphs and grabbing items for points. A once‑per‑life flamethrower can briefly halt an alien. Touching pulsars temporarily turns aliens blue, letting you defeat them. Difficulty switches change alien movement and whether pulsars power up the player. After clearing all eggs, a short bonus round offers a prize at the top of the screen.
Reception was mixed. The Video Game Update did not recommend it as another maze rehash, while Arcade Express found the graphics cute but the mechanics unoriginal. Later, Brett Weiss called it a Pac‑Man clone yet still highly playable, and Retro Gamer noted it captures some tension despite basic visuals.
