CR: Alien vs. Predator is a Japanese arcade machine similar to a pinball table, released in 2007 and based on the movie Alien vs. Predator. Designed as a flashy, gambling-style experience, it mixes the chaos of a modern pachinko cabinet with the feel of a themed pinball table, packing the playfield with Alien and Predator imagery, lights and mechanical toys.
The machine was developed and edited by 20th Century Fox and Cross Media International, and sits firmly within the wider Alien vs. Predator franchise. Players fire balls into the table and try to trigger movie-inspired events, jackpots and bonus modes while the cabinet blasts out sound effects, music and character callouts drawn from the film.
As with other Japanese arcade “CR” machines, play revolves around firing metal balls into the playfield and letting gravity, timing and a bit of luck take over. Hitting specific lanes, bumpers and targets will start different modes: Alien attack sequences, Predator hunts and human military responses, all represented by changing lights, animated panels and scoreboard displays.
Certain shots can lock you into special scenes where the Alien and Predator clash, with increased ball payouts and score multipliers on the line. Sustained success can lead to high-intensity jackpot rounds, where the table’s lighting, sound and mechanical parts go into overdrive and the chance of big wins rises dramatically. Missing shots, on the other hand, quickly drains balls and ends the run.
Themed artwork covers every part of the cabinet, from Xenomorph bio-mechanical structures around the playfield to Predator targeting symbols on ramps and inserts. Combined with voice samples, weapon sounds and alarms, it turns the machine into a compact, noisy slice of AvP arcade spectacle.
The cabinet follows the style of contemporary Japanese arcade gambling machines, with a tall, eye-catching frame designed to stand out on a busy gaming floor. The front is dominated by a large central viewing window for the playfield, surrounded by translucent plastics, LED strips and printed Alien vs. Predator art.
In keeping with the license, the machine leans heavily on the contrast between the sleek Predator tech and the nightmarish organic look of the Xenomorphs. Predator glyphs and targeting reticles sit alongside eggs, facehuggers and the Alien Queen herself, while the audio blends atmospheric hums and distant alarms with weapon fire and roaring creatures.
Although it never saw a home release, CR: Alien vs. Predator remains a curious piece of AvP history: a dedicated, Japan-only arcade/pinball hybrid built to turn the film’s atmosphere into flashing lights, rattling balls and the constant chase for one more jackpot.
