A satellite discovers a mysterious heat signature beneath Antarctica. Industrialist Charles Bishop Weyland bankrolls a team of explorers led by guide Alexa Woods to investigate a buried pyramid. There, they are caught in an ancient rite: Predators arrive to hunt Xenomorphs they seed as prey. Trapped in the labyrinth, humans become collateral in a brutal war between the species.
Set in 2004 on the remote island of Bouvetøya, the film pits a small expedition against a shifting pyramid whose rooms reconfigure every ten minutes. The Predators’ coming-of-age ritual requires them to slay Aliens with sacred weapons. Alexa forms an uneasy alliance with the last surviving Predator—marking herself with Xenomorph blood—to escape the hive.
Despite mixed reviews, the movie was a box-office hit and launched a crossover sub-series that continued with Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007). Practical creature effects and suit performance were emphasized alongside CGI.
Weyland’s team enters the subterranean pyramid and inadvertently awakens a Xenomorph Queen whose eggs hatch Facehuggers. As Aliens multiply, Predators descend to claim their trophy weapons stored in the structure. The pyramid resets, separating survivors into deadly corridors. Lex and a lone Predator join forces to destroy the hive and the Queen, escaping to the surface. In a final twist aboard the Predator ship, a chestburster emerges from the fallen Predator—an ominous hybrid.
