Set in 1719 on the Northern Great Plains, Prey follows Naru, a young Comanche warrior who must protect her people when a highly skilled alien hunter arrives with fearsome weapons. Using ingenuity, tracking skills, and the land itself, Naru faces the Predator in a brutal fight for survival.
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg and written by Patrick Aison, Prey is the fifth mainline installment in the Predator franchise (seventh overall). It premiered August 5, 2022, streaming on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally, and was widely praised for its Indigenous representation and back‑to‑basics, survival‑thriller approach.
In 1719, on the Northern Great Plains, Naru, a young Comanche woman trained as a healer and aspiring hunter, wishes to prove herself as a warrior. When an otherworldly Predator descends to hunt the strongest beings it can find, Naru senses that the strange presence stalking the wilderness is unlike anything her people have faced. As the Predator slaughters animals and intrudes deeper into Comanche territory, Naru sets out with her dog and, later, her brother Taabe to confront the threat.
Over time, Naru observes how the Predator uses advanced alien technology but still relies on strategy and instinct like a hunter of the natural world. She realizes that cunning, knowledge of the land, and patience can counter brute strength and superior weaponry. As her tribe comes into direct conflict with French fur trappers and the alien hunter, Naru must rely on her tracking skills, ingenuity, and resilience to survive. The struggle culminates in a fierce showdown where Naru proves herself not only to the Predator but also to her people, securing her place as a warrior.
