Q: What is the Aliens vs. Predator 2 master server patch (msp)?
The msp is an unoffical patch created by the AvP2 community (NOT MONOLITH) - That enables the user to once again play online multiplayer.
Q: Who hosts the aliens vs. predator 2 master server?
We do! AVPUNKNOWN is the online provider of the Aliens vs. Predator 2 master server and will be for the unforeseeable future. If you want to make a contribution to keep the server running, we gladly accept donations.
Q: What is the history of the master server patch (msp)?
The original multiplayer master server was shut down by Activision during the purchase of Sierra. The master server patch (MSP) was first created by both Herr Alien and The One of LithFAQ (circa 2008). At this time, MSP was known as the "Savior Mod" to save online play for AvP2. LithFAQ eventually closed up shop and the Savior Mod download was hosted at AVP UNKNOWN (circa 2009). This time the master server used the Gamespy network for connecting players. This method worked up to 2014, but then Gamespy shut down. After a brief period of no master server, the development of the Savior Mod was handed over to the player known as TBBC. It was also at this time that the Savior Mod was renamed to the master server patch. TBBC continued to host the master server and download until transfering the master server and MSP download to the player known as Rommie in 2018. TBBC remained the active developer of the MSP, but after a massive community backlash against Rommie for banning many players and servers, TBBC transfered the master server and MSP again to the players Smith, DT and Ayleia (AvP2MSP team). It was Smith who hosted the master server from 2018-2019. AvPUnknown assisted in promoting AvP2MSP and the new MSP. Smith eventually decided to step away from hosting the master server and handed it over to AVP UNKNOWN as the current hosting solution. The MSP is still under continuous development. The current developers are TBBC, Ayleia and The One.
Q: Where is the OFFICIAL MASTER SERVER PATCH SITE?
Here AVPUNKNOWN'S OFFICIAL MSP SITE remains as the official site/home as it was originally cleared by Herr Alien and The One. (and still most known for avp2 online and files to this date)
Q: Whenever I try to find a game it just closes the program! I am on Vista.
Windows Vista has introduced a new feature that stops unwanted programs from starting and executing code on the users machine. However, this breaks a lot of compatibility with other programs. Turn off UAC and try it again. You can find the option in your user account which is accessible via the control panel.
Q: Does Primal Hunt Have a master server patch?
Yes! visit the downloads page and grab the primal hunt master server patch..
Q: What is the error world version is different from the server?
This is caused either because the server is using a map pack (UMP2/3 for example), mods or because your AvP2 game installation was not updated to version 1.0.9.6 before applying the patch. Uninstall the master server patch, apply the official 1.0.9.6 patch, then re-install the master server patch.
Q: How do I get rid of the error client MFC application has stopped working?
Follow this guide here: CLIENT MFC ERROR GUIDE
Q: Why can I host a server but I not join my own server?
This is caused by having different rez files specified on the command lines for the game server and the game client. The game client command line is the one visible when double clicking AvP2.exe -> Options. The game server has it's rez files specified in "customrez.txt".
Q: Any news on Linux support on this patch? Or is that asking way to much?
Unfortunately we didn't succeed in building the needed binaries for Linux. Sorry.
Q: How about Mac support on this patch?
For Mac the situation is even worse, since besides the missing tools (compiler) we don't have Macs.
Q: I get the error "could not write avp2p5.rez" when installing the patch. What do I do to solve this?
Make sure you run the installer as an administrator.
Q: Is the msp compatible with the Bunny server mod?
Yes, it is. Install the Bunny mod, then install the master server mod (and yes, install the dedicated server from the patch). Add the avp2p5.rez to the customrez.txt and you're good to go.
Q: Is the msp compatible with the TBBC/SGB Server App?
Yes, it is! Our very own servers (WWW.AVPUNKNOWN.COM - TDM) uses it. Great security!
Q: I experience lag with the MSP?
There are some reports of users experiencing lag on the in-game menus and tab overlays. Hopefully this can be fixed in a future update.
Q: I'm experiencing a bug/glitch with the msp. Where can I report this? I have a question not covered here. Where can I ask about it?
